Imagine having access to factory-scale metal and wood fabrication facilities,
metal and glass foundries, walk-in ceramic kilns, state-of-the-art computer and
imaging labs, and numerous other resources where you can create virtually any
object imaginable. Imagine too that many of your fellow students (both
undergraduate and graduate), faculty, and studio managers/artists who run these
facilities are committed to extending the bounds of our object world. And
finally, imagine having your work discussed by leading artists, critics, and
curators
In the graduate program in Fine Arts 3D, a community of committed
artists works within and across media to create aesthetically
compelling objects. Some graduate students pursue traditional
work in modeling and casting; others create virtual entities that
incorporate kinetic, interactive, or robotic elements. Some Fine
Arts 3D graduate students also take advantage of MassArt’s
unique location by exploring Boston’s dynamic arts scene,
which has become, in recent years, a center for computer-generated
art
Close collaboration between students and faculty is a key part
of the graduate program in Fine Arts 3D. Faculty advisors work
with graduate students to help them develop a plan of study that
is appropriate to the development of their individual and aesthetic
goals. Like other graduate programs at MassArt, Fine Arts 3D is
also a vital community in which graduate students meet with visiting
artists, collaborate, and share ideas with students working in
other media
