Film/Video Requirements

The Film/Video graduate program at MassArt is committed to avant-garde film and video art practice. The program’s faculty – Ericka Beckman, Saul Levine, and Gretchen Skogerson – are all practicing members of Boston’s vital avant-garde art community.

The Major Studio of the Film/Video program is a critique-based class that meets on a weekly basis. As in other MassArt graduate programs, visiting artists frequently join the critique, contributing vital new ideas. In addition, each graduate student may identify an outside advisor or mentor who reviews the student’s work by appointment six times each semester.

The Film/Video graduate program has outstanding facilities and resources, including advanced film and video production equipment and non-linear and 16 mm film editing. Ample screening rooms, digital sound studios, optical printing, and animation facilities are also available to graduate students. The program’s vibrant artistic community is enriched by weekly film screenings and by visiting artists.
