In the Studio for Interrelated Media, artists may work, either
individually or collaboratively, in a wide range of media and
presentation formats. The program’s core feature is the
SIM Major Studio Course, in which students and faculty meet, present,
and critique work, develop collaborative projects, and talk with
visiting artists.
SIM graduate students may draw on MassArt’s full range
of fabrication and technical equipment and facilities in order
to realize their ideas. The program is also enriched by MassArt’s
Boston location, which has become a prominent hub of high technology
art. Boston draws many cutting-edge artists, theorists, and educators
from around the nation, and the SIM program encourages students
to explore the city’s many excellent experimental art exhibitions
and resources
The SIM graduate program’s coordinator is Denise Marika,
an artist who creates site-specific installations that incorporate
elements from still and video images and sculpture. Dana Moser,
who teaches computer-controlled media, video production, and Internet
art, and John Holland, an electronic music composer and sound
artist, also belong to the SIM faculty
